Modulaire kabelassemblages bestaan uit een stuk geschikt touw, afgesloten met een soort verbindingsproduct dat bekend staat als een "modulaire connector". Modulaire kabels worden vaak gebruikt in telecommunicatietoepassingen zoals bekabelde Ethernet- en telefoonnetwerken en kunnen grofweg in twee klassen worden verdeeld op basis van hun gebruik van platte of ronde kabeltypen.
